The importance of prostate biopsy in the early diagnosis of prostate cancer is crucial.
This minimally invasive surgical technique consists in taking small pieces of tissue from prostate gland in order to examine them under the microscope. The patient is covered with antibiotics.
Biopsy Indications
Main indication of prostate biopsy is an increased PSA ( usually over 4ng/ml) or a palpable induration at the digital rectal examination of the prostate.
Adverse effects or complications:
The method is highly secure. Accompanied by minimal patient discomfort. Can be performed under local anesthesia. Important, but very rare complications are hematuria, urinary infection, urinary retention and bleeding from the rectum.
